IJRU
2021 VWC Officially Closed

Thank you for your participation in the 2021 IJRU Virtual World Championships. IJRU was able to pull off a major feat as a new and emerging organization to host a historic virtual tournament that included 1362 athletes, over 200 judges, and 2944 video submissions to judge.

Throughout this process IJRU tournament leadership has worked through many unforeseen obstacles and the patience of the athletes, coaches and NGB leadership has been appreciated. This event has provided us with a wealth of knowledge moving forward with not only virtual options of competition, but also for our future in person events as well.

The Tournament Committee recognizes the concerns that arose during the progression of the tournament and is appreciative of the opportunities we had to work through these issues with the support of our NGB’s.

Judge and participate certificates have been sent to participating NGBs. If your NGB has not received this email with links to certificates, please email support@ijru.sport

The IJRU looks forward to partnering with our NGB’s in the growth and development of jump rope/rope skipping throughout the world.

Sincerely,
The Tournament Committee

Russia Sanctions

On 19 March 2022, the IJRU BOD met in its regularly scheduled board meeting to discuss the Russia sanctions as recommended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 28 Feb 2022.

The board made the decision to enact the following sanctions.

  1. The IJRU, being consistent with the IOC published directive, will not invite, or allow the participation of Russian athletes and officials in any international sports competitions and events until further notice, effective immediately.

  2. Russian officials in all positions, committees, and subcommittees are suspended from their post in the IJRU until further notice, effective immediately.

These sanctions were taken with the utmost consideration for the athletes, officials, and our global organization governance duties. Many IJRU members are recognized by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) with similar sanctions in place. Lack of sanctions on IJRU’s account could result in additional member challenges and athlete participation within IJRU and events.  Additionally, key stakeholders and IJRU affiliates within the global sport community have enacted similar sanctions with calls to International Federations (IFs) to follow the global sport order.

Although Russian athletes and officials are temporarily suspended from international representation, IJRU has not revoked the Russia Federation membership and still supports their local/ national level events. As we stay in close contact with our Russian member, we recognize that many of the Russian people are caught in the middle of this humanitarian crises, thus membership and support continue at the national level.

In conclusion, we ask our community for understanding and empathy toward all. Our sport has not had to consider these types of issues in our past. However, as IJRU continues to solidify its position in within the Olympic movement, our governance scope must follow suite.

Sincerely
Shaun Hamilton
IJRU President

IJRU
Russian and Belarusian Athletes and Officials

Firstly, our thoughts and prayers are with our athletes and their families, wherever you are. We sincerely hope your family and friends are safe and not deeply affected by the current events which are taking place in the Ukraine and Russia.

In accordance with IJRU’s values and principles, we condemn the acts of war that continue to escalate in the Ukraine by the Russian and Belarus governments. The global sporting community is responding to this humanitarian crisis by aligning with the IOC statement issued on 28 February:

The IOC recommendations are clear and calls for strong action against Russia and Belarus to be taken as quickly as possible.

  • The IOC EB (Executive Board) recommends that International Sports Federations and sports event organisers not to invite or allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international competitions.

  • The IOC EB maintains its urgent recommendation not to organise any sports event in Russia or Belarus, issued on 25 February 2022.

See Full IOC Statement

IJRU has and continues to align with the Olympic Movement. Many of our member nations have achieved sportingrecognitionandaresubjecttotheirNOCspoliciesandsanctions. The IJRU Executive Committee and Board of Directors will determine the appropriate sanctions as we seek the proper guidance from our affiliated groups and associations within the Olympic Movement as soon as possible.

Again, we wish to express our heartfelt sympathies to the courageous people of Ukraine and surrounding impacted nations and their people.

Sincerely,
Shaun Hamilton
IJRU President
